Different ways to approach personal Bible reading

Daily Bible Reading Notes

Bible reading notes are good for this. These small booklets make suggestions for passages to read for each day. They usually give some background to the passage and offer reflections on it. There are various different notes produced. If you’d like to see samples or to order reading notes please ask Margaret Cobley.

Daily lectionary

The Church of England follows a daily lectionary which allows us to read through the Bible methodically. You can buy these from websites like Church house bookshop (www.chbookshop.co.uk). If you want to see a copy please ask one of our Lay Pastoral Assistants.

Use a Daily Study Bible

There are a number of Bibles which are arranged so as to allow you to read a section every day. They often take you through the whole Bible in a year.

Make use of special Seasons

A number of people produce books of readings and reflections on Bible passages specifically for seasons such as Lent and Advent. These can be a helpful way to refresh our Bible reading and because they are for a fixed time can seem ‘do-able’. You could ask for these at Christian bookshops and online suppliers.

Consider good use of technology

Some people find the spoken word helpful. There are recorded versions of the Bible available, why not try one. You can get downloadable versions of the Bible and lots of relevant apps - perfect for reading on the tube!

More in-depth study

As well as reading devotionally it is good to do some more in-depth study of the Bible. More on this here
